While most history lessons consider American involvement in the Vietnam conflict to have originated with the Marines landing at Da Nang in 1965, in actuality began almost a decade earlier. With a call for help from an unlikely source, the French Army, who themselves were entrenched in a quarrel against the Viet Cong. Brought to video by PBS, this documentary tells the legacy of the battle for Dien Bien Phu, starting with the guerilla assault against outnumbered and outgunned French soldiers in the spring of 1954. The aftermath of the conflict would divide the Southeast Asian nation and be the launching pad for the deployment of American forces.

What starts as a ripple becomes a wave, and with the United States involvement in Vietnam, it began as a contingent of U.S. "military advisors" after the attack at Dien Bien Phu. From there it turned into "non-official combat missions," and finally, after an unprovoked torpedo attack by a North Vietnamese patrol boat against the unsuspecting U.S. destroyer Maddox, it became "The Undeclared War." While the method of "search and destroy" is the ultimate goal for any armed conflict, it developed a new face in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War. With the absence of an actual front line, the North circumvented skirmishes by entering neighboring Cambodia, only to reappear within striking distance of the South stronghold of Saigon. With such bold initiative, the American contingent retaliated with heavily armed helicopter gunships from the U.S. First Air Cavalry Division, thus introducing the world's first helicopter-based military formation at the battle of the La Drang Valley. If you look up the word in any thesaurus, the definition of "siege" is everything from a simple attack to a naval blockade. What these references books won't tell you is that the true meaning of that ominous utterance is what happened at the United States Marine combat base at Khe Sanh on January 21, 1968. Beginning at sunrise, a massive North Vietnamese artillery barrage fell on the base, the support runways, and the main ammunition dump, sending soldiers scrambling for cover. After two days, when the smoke finally cleared, thousands lay dead and wounded. The 12th and final episode of the critically acclaimed series Battlefield Vietnam deals with the twilight of the Vietnam conflict. While the photograph of the "last chopper out" remains a definitive image of the fall of Saigon, it actually began three years prior with a massive ground assault by 30,000 North Vietnamese regulars that buckled the already fragile border. Only the thunderous B-52 bombing runs courtesy of the U.S.A.F. saved the total collapse of the country during the "spring offensive" of 1972. However, with the eventual withdrawal of U.S. forces, the writing was on the wall and the once proud city fell.

chỉ khỏang 10 phút nhưng quả thật khá ấn tượng.
Hình như là của 1 phóng viên truyền hình độc lập người Anh (Sandy Gall). Phim là một lát cắt trong ngày 30 tháng 4 tại Saigon.
Xin lược qua một vài scene đáng lưu ý:
- Người dân "hôi của" sứ quán Mỹ
- Người chờ di tản trên nóc sứ quán
- Anh lính VNCH nói (tiếng Anh) đại ý: rất mừng vì hòa bình sau hơn 20 năm đánh nhau, sẽ về lái taxi nuôi vợ con.
- Trung tá CSQG Nguyễn Văn Long tự sát dưới chân tượng TQLC (công viên trước Nhà hát TP bây giờ)
- Xe tăng GP tràn vào dinh DL, trung úy xe tăng Bùi Quang Thận (chắc sau khi cắm cờ) hướng dẫn xe 843 đậu vào bãi cỏ trước dinh cạnh xe 390 đã đậu trước đó.
- Một anh bộ đội miền Bắc nhảy cẫng, hét lên" Sướng quá"
- TT Minh nói: "Tôi trao quyền cho ai xứng đáng hơn tôi"
- TT Minh bị đại úy Phạm Xuân Thệ cầm K59 ốp ra xe Jeep
Phim kết thúc với hình ảnh những đòan quân GP trên đường, một anh bộ đội bế em bé gái ngồi trên xe tăng.

"Bí mật con người" là tập phim bộc lộ rõ nhất ý đồ của đạo diễn. Từ sự vui mừng hoan hỉ của lính Mỹ khi tuyên bố chiến tranh kết thúc, đến hình ảnh họ vỗ tay hoan nghênh, ôm chầm lấy nhau trên máy bay... đạo diễn Daniel Costelle đã đề cập được một khía cạnh tâm lý của người lính Mỹ khi tham gia cuộc chiến: Họ hoàn toàn không có nhận thức rõ ràng về những gì đã xảy ra ở Việt Nam và tại sao họ phải chiến đấu. Họ chỉ là quân cờ trong ván bài của Mỹ. Với họ, đi lính chỉ đồng nghĩa với được trợ cấp nhiều tiền, đồng nghĩa với việc được bố trí việc làm ngay khi xuất ngũ!

Địa đạo Củ Chi là một hệ thống địa đạo ở huyện Củ Chi, 70 km phía tây bắc Thành phố Hồ Chí Minh. Hệ thống địa đạo này được nhân dân và Mặt trận Dân tộc Giải phóng miền Nam Việt Nam đào trong thời kỳ kháng chiến chống Pháp và Chiến tranh Việt Nam. Hệ thống địa đạo bao gồm bệnh xá, nhiều phòng ở, nhà bếp, kho chứa, phòng làm việc, hệ thống đường ngầm dưới lòng đất. Hệ thống địa đạo dài khoảng 200 km và có các hệ thống thông hơi vào các vị trí các bụi cây. Địa đạo Củ Chi được xây dựng trên vùng đất được mệnh danh là "đất thép", nằm ở điểm cuối Đường mòn Hồ Chí Minh huyền thoại. Trong Chiến dịch Tết Mậu Thân 1968, Mặt trận Dân tộc Giải phóng miền Nam Việt Nam đã sử dụng hệ thống địa đạo này để tấn công Sài Gòn.

Từ năm 1961 đến năm 1971, quân đội Mỹ đã ném các chất hóa học xuống toàn bộ miền Nam Việt Nam, các vùng nông thôn và miền núi – nơi chịu ảnh hưởng nhiều nhất chất độc hại này. Những thước phim quý của Nhật Bản về chiến tranh VN

20h30 tối nay, ngày 30/4, bộ phim tài liệu dài 110 phút mang tên “Việt Nam thống nhất” sẽ lần đầu tiên được trình chiếu trên sóng Đài Truyền hình Kỹ thuật số - kênh VTC1. Đây là những thước phim quý báu của những nhà làm phim Nhật Bản ghi lại hình ảnh Việt Nam (VN) tại thời điểm thống nhất năm 1975.

Rạng rỡ mừng chiến thắng..

Điều đáng chú ý là “Việt Nam thống nhất” được thực hiện trên những thước phim màu với hình ảnh và âm thanh rõ nét nhất từ trước đến nay trong số những phim tài liệu đã thực hiện về VN trước năm 1975. Các phóng viên chiến trường Nhật Bản đã tái hiện một bề dày lịch sử của VN trong công cuộc giải phóng đất nước từ năm 1954 qua các giai đoạn và những nỗ lực đấu tranh giành độc lập của người dân trên mọi mặt trận.
Khán giả sẽ có được cơ hội nghe các chiến sỹ ở vùng đất U Minh nói về những điều mà họ đang làm cho cách mạng. Đó cũng là những tuyên truyền viên bí mật in báo và tài liệu kháng chiến, là một người thợ lặn được mệnh danh “Thuỷ thần” trong cuộc chiến đấu chống giặc… Đó còn là cuộc sống của người dân Việt oằn mình trong “ấp chiến lược” của địch tại Cần Thơ.
Những người làm phim “Việt Nam thống nhất” đã kịp thời ghi lại những cuộc càn quét của Mỹ và thất bại của chúng trước sự phản công quyết liệt của quân Giải phóng. Phim cũng có những cảnh quay xúc động về “chuồng cọp” tại nhà tù Côn Đảo và sự tàn khốc của hơn hai ngàn tù ngục khác trên đất nước VN.

Cao trào của cảm xúc là sự kiện ngày 16/3/1968, “một tốp máy bay trực thăng chở lính Mỹ và đã đổ bộ xuống làng Sơn Mỹ - một làng nhỏ miền trung Việt Nam. Khắp mọi nơi trong làng đều có máu. Ngày hôm đó, 504 người đã bị giết, toàn trẻ con, người già và phụ nữ”.
Lần đầu tiên những nhà làm phim, đồng thời cũng là những nhân chứng lịch sử đã ghi lại và công bố tội ác của quân xâm lược bằng những hình ảnh hết sức cụ thể và rõ nét.
Đặc biệt, bộ phim cũng ghi lại những phút giây thiêng liêng của lịch sử khi Sài Gòn được giải phóng, VN hoàn toàn thống nhất, một không khí tưng bừng hạnh phúc của nhân dân, sự cảm động của ngày đoàn tụ và cả gương mặt, ánh mắt của những người mẹ, người vợ khi chồng con mình không bao giờ trở về nữa.
Cũng là lần đầu tiên, người ta được lắng nghe lời thú nhận tội ác của một sỹ quan ngụy trong trại tập trung, lời thú nhận muộn màng nhưng cũng rất chân thành và hướng thiện.
Tất cả đã được ghi lại một cách khách quan thông qua góc nhìn của những nhà làm phim Nhật Bản. Tổng đạo diễn phim là Yamamoto Satsuo, các đạo diễn Toma Hiroichi, Yuki Yoshihiro, Suzuki Toshikazu. Hai nhà quay phim - phóng viên chiến trường là Ishigaki Misao và Iwada Rikizou. Bộ phim do Nhà xuất bản Kim Đồng tặng trao đổi bản quyền cho Đài Truyền hình Kỹ thuật số VTC.
Theo bà Nguyễn Hương Giang, Phó Giám đốc Kênh VTC1, bộ phim sẽ gây xúc động cho người xem cả nước, bởi trong đó có sự xuất hiện của nhà nghiên cứu Trần Bạch Đằng, các chiến sỹ cách mạng, nay người còn, người mất. Về mặt nghệ thuật, phim tài liệu mang đậm tính đời sống với những thước phim rất đẹp về vùng sông nước Nam Bộ trong kháng chiến…

Bộ phim nói về sự kiện nhân dân Hà Nội và các tỉnh lân cận đón Chủ tịch Hồ Chí Minh và Chính phủ từ chiến khu Việt Bắc trở về thủ đô ngày 1/1/1955. Trong thời lượng 25 phút, bộ phim cũng đã diễn tả không khí lễ mít tinh, diễu binh, diễu hành tại Quảng trường Ba Đình ngày 1/1/1955 và toàn văn bài phát biểu của Chủ tịch Hồ Chí Minh.

Bộ phim “Ngày lịch sử” của đạo diễn Vladimir Echourine được thực hiện với sự hỗ trợ của ba nhà quay phim Việt Nam là Nguyễn Hồng Nghi, Nguyễn Tiến Lợi và Phan Nghiêm. Nhà văn Nguyễn Đình Thi là người viết và đọc lời bình cho bộ phim.
